On the evening of Tuesday 29th July, a small group of E.S.K.K dojo members challenged brown belt ranks at our closed dojo in Arlecdon. These events are a significant step up from the lower kyu grade examinations and require a great deal of skill, effort and determination. They test not only the physical prowess of candidates, but also their ability to push past their limits, adapt when things go wrong, apply the classical movement of karate against realistic scenarios under pressure, knowledge of karate history and underlying concepts, plus progress on their individual martial journey. E.S.K.K Karate always strives to maintain a very high quality and the standard we demand means that gaining a senior rank in our dojo is something to be very proud of. It is earned only through hard work and tenacity with no short cuts! Everyone who attempts a senior grade examination with us are commended, whether they are successful or unsuccessful. Facing challenge is something we need to do consistently in life and if you can attempt something as demanding as a senior karate grading, then many other 'challenges' that cause everyday stress will become pale by comparison. So, congratulations to everyone who stood in front of the panel yesterday. You have all set a fine example for what we stand for and I'm sure, have provided much inspiration for kohai and spectators looking on. Senior gradings represent the future of E.S.K.K Karate and from the overall performance yesterday, the future looks very bright indeed...well done!
