With the prevailing threat of violent crime, more local residents are looking for some holistic and effective self-defence training.
The same is true for young adults in Cumbria, who may be leaving the area to study or work in more densely populated towns and cities...

For self-defence, the first place people tend to look is martial arts. However, this can be problematic for a number of reasons...
Firstly...Unless the particular martial art is geared towards for self-defence (many aren't), then it's likely that some of the techniques and tactics you'll learn may be counter-productive to personal safety and in some cases, dangerous!
Secondly...Most martial arts teach only the physical aspects of combat, which are a last resort. The reality is that with a strong personal safety game plan, most potential situations may be avoided early or escaped from altogether. And most of those that can't, may be managed in ways other ways. Physical protection measures are actually the worst form of personal safety...especially if this is the only response option you've trained to employ!
Thirdly...Learning a martial art can take a long time, requiring a high-level of interest and commitment. This is far from ideal for the busy amongst us, who aren't really interested in the intricacies of these disciplines and simply want some simple, yet effective self-defence training in a matter of weeks, rather than years!
Introducing:
SELF-DEFENCE ESSENTIALS
A Special Workshop for your own Personal Safety!
Implementing personal safety skills into your life should be just as important as other preventative measures such as the green cross code, a healthy diet, a first aid course, brushing your teeth or mirrors, signal, manoeuvre!
Our Self-Defence Essentials workshops are designed to raise awareness for personal safety, present a practical blueprint for everyday living and promote very simple but effective strategies to help significantly reduce the chances of being chosen as a victim of violence.
This thought-provoking workshop shares a number of proven tools to help develop good awareness skills to help recognise the hallmarks of a potential threat early enough to avoid or escape. We will also show methods to build strong 'layers of defence', strategies to increase safety in and around your home, plus we'll provide some physical techniques to increase your capability to stand up, say NO - and mean it!

Most self-defence seems to look at how to get out of situations once you are in them. This was a really refreshing look at the subject, learning how to avoid getting into situations to start with!
