On the afternoon of Saturday, 31st May, we were invited by Parkway Cinema in Workington to perform a karate demonstration celebrating the opening weekend of the new Karate Kid: Legends movie!
With only about a week to prepare, we quickly assembled a team of members representing all ages and experience levels from our clubs in Whitehaven, Workington, Egremont, Cleator Moor, and Cockermouth. While the big screen brings the drama and action to life, our goal for the demo was to show how karate offers something powerful, practical, and deeply rewarding in everyday life—for people of all ages. We covered a range of elements, including fundamental techniques and kata, self-defence applications, weapons training, traditional supplementary exercise equipment, and pad work. We also provided narration to inform spectators about the history, culture, and methodology of the art. We held two back-to-back demonstrations so everyone in the cinema, whether arriving or leaving, could watch and enjoy. The event was a great success, and we’d like to thank everyone who supported it. And of course—a huge well done to the demo team members who, despite the tight preparation time, gave their all to represent our dojo. We were very proud to see you work together and deliver a fantastic performance!
