It is my hope that E.S.K.K® Martial Arts & fitness can become a physical representation of the constant human ambition to grow and positively develop. Personally, I've always possessed a deep passion for martial arts and fitness, and although these have been part my life every day since I was a youngster, the warm feeling that comes over me every time I practice takes me right back to the experiences and enjoyment of my very first lesson.

Still a mere beginner in karate, the scope just seems to constantly grow exponentially with every new lesson learned. Every stone that I feel I've turned over for myself only reveals many more left to confront. This is by no means a negative aspect though and I always look forward to uncovering more each day. In our group, I want every member to understand and experience the beauty of martial arts, health and fitness, make it an expression personal to themselves and ultimately, appreciate the positive challenge that these disciplines provide; a challenge that always makes me smile and thankful every day to be alive and healthy.

As founder and Chief Instructor, I know that E.S.K.K® Martial Arts & Fitness is by no means the product of one individual. The group stands as a testament of what can be achieved when a few like-minded people who share a genuine interest, work together in order to share with others, the beauty of what they believe in. In no particular order, I'd like to express my deepest gratitude to the following people who have been pivotal to the conception and constant development of what we do:

My partner, Jenny and son, Jayden: for their love, belief and encouragement in me and my wacky dreams. I will forever be in debt to them.

Peter Sempie: for his invaluable assistance and support over the years. Peter and I have trained together closely for many years. I couldn't have asked for a better student to work alongside me - long may our friendship last.

My Parents (John and Mary): for believing in everything I do and supporting me endlessly and unconditionally. "As long as you truthfully put your best into something, then no one could ever ask for more (not even yourself)". This lesson I have learned from my parents and I will treasure these words forever.

My Sensei, Doug James: for being patient with me as his student, his exacting standards that have enabled me to grow in experience and his guidance in helping to make karate such a significant part of my life.

Iain Abernethy, Jim Robson and the other 'old school' instructors at Chojinkai: for sharing with me their knowledge, experience and unique viewpoints over the past years.

Fred Ritson: for the countless beads of sweat that we've have expelled together side by side in the dojo and the many times he has motivated me to continue pushing forwards.

Lee Caradus, Anthony Oliver and the members of the Lancaster dojos: for their friendship and support of our karate seminars and workshops.

Jon Roll, Peter Hinde, Roy Lewis, Stuart Graham and Heather McGowan for all their invaluable help over the past years in the general day-to-day running and promotion of the club, it's classes and associated events. A teacher can only exist with his most dedicated students and is only ever as good as the enthusiasm they share.

And last but certainly not least...

All the members, friends and supporters of E.S.K.K® Martial Arts & Fitness for helping to bring to fruition, the ambitions we hold dear to our hearts. As long as we are active, we will endeavour never to let you down.
