Welcome to the E.S.K.K
The Eikoku Satori Karate-Do Kyokai (E.S.K.K) is a small, unique karate research group based on the edge of the Western Lake District in Cumbria, England . Our emphasis lies in the application of what we describe as ‘Traditional Adaptable Karate'. Broadly speaking, this means that our practice seeks to uncover (in a pragmatic way) the functional aims of the art's original perceived intent, by equating to the associated core principles and movements. From the onset, the E.S.K.K encourages its members to ask the questions ‘why', ‘how' and ‘what if'. The unique syllabus stretches each student's aptitude so that a more spontaneous understanding can be gained. By understanding the central concepts behind each physical movement, the student is encouraged to ‘step off the path' and acclimatise these principles elsewhere. This could be in order to defend yourself or loved ones, or to understand more about the way in which you function as an individual. The prime commitment of the E.S.K.K is to increase the understanding and ability of its members so that karate can become an art that's personal to each of them. As human beings, we are able to speak in abundance using only a definitive number of sounds, applicable to our own specific language. Likewise in karate, physical movements should be learned so that ‘sentences' and ‘paragraphs' can be made freely without the constraints of the art's current widespread limitations, which do nothing more than bind the student so tightly, that competence becomes a struggle and it proves almost impossible to breathe. At the E.S.K.K, we endeavour to rid each student from the practical stagnancy's and limitations that are usually encountered in the majority of widespread ‘sport orientated' or ‘junior type' schools. In addition, we attempt to help restore the malleability that the art originally held, as a system to greatly improve self-protection skills, build a strong character and allow for greater personal expression. |
